Herring Lane
This project features a primary boulder retaining wall standing 5–6 feet tall, designed to stabilize the hillside and create usable space where the grade previously limited functionality. To complement the structure, we constructed a double-terraced system of secondary boulder walls, each about 2.5–3 feet high. The terracing not only improves slope stability and drainage but also introduces multiple levels that can be planted for seasonal color.
The use of large natural boulders ensures long-term durability while giving the walls a rugged, timeless character that blends with the site. The tiered design adds depth and visual interest, transforming what could have been a strictly functional retaining solution into a landscape feature with both strength and beauty.
