Alpena Court

This project showcases a balance of artful structure and natural tranquility, designed to harmonize the home’s architecture with its surrounding environment. The landscape features terraced boulder walls that define and support the elevated planting beds, with sedum cascading over the stones to soften their form over time. Throughout the space, ornamental trees, specimen Hinoki cypress, Japanese maple, Japanese forest grass, hydrangeas, and diverse ornamental grasses create a layered composition that blends texture, movement, and seasonal interest.

A flagstone walkway leads from the back deck to the fire pit, guiding movement through the landscape while maintaining a natural, cohesive flow. Near the gathering area, a pondless waterfall framed by lush plantings introduces the sound and motion of water without the maintenance of a pond, offering a serene atmosphere for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment. The integration of natural stone and plant variety gives this design both structural integrity and a sense of timeless beauty.
